Between vowels it's a quick tongue tap, like the tt in American “butter.” At the end of a syllable it's an l.

StrokesThree strokes: a ㄱ shape on top, a short line across the middle, then a ㄴ shape at the bottom.

Easy to confuseㄷ — In a hurry ㄹ can look like ㄷ with a zigzag — the middle line is what makes it ㄹ.
